The Hellstone Marathon and Half Marathon
The Hellstone Marathon and Half Marathon by Badger Trail Events are fully signed, hilly challenging trail races in the Heart of Dorset. With The Hellstone Marathon we bring you more devilish hills, more heroic views and more epic skies for a lot of the course, but we couldn’t resist including a bit of magical woodland and a stone circle along the way.
The Races start from the cricket field adjoining the impressive, and beautiful Bridehead House in Little Bredy in the heart of Dorset.
The routes go straight uphill from the start (where have we heard that before?), then follow windblown hilltops, farm tracks, small footpaths, bridleways, steep fields both up and down, and go past ancient stones, a forgotten chapel, and a wishing well. Tarmac has been kept to a minimum. Despite the many runnable sections, this race is not easy; The marathon boasts approx 1169m of elevation and the half comes in at about 614m (according to OS maps, full garmin gpx to be provided shortly).
There are some long and steep climbs, many gates and stiles, and some difficult hillsides to traverse. There are also epic views reaching into the next county in places.
The Races are pretty much all trail apart from:
- In the Marathon there is a total of approx 1.8km of tarmac, the longest section being 0.7km
- In the half there is a total of approx 1.45km of tarmac, the longest section being 0.7km
There is a generous 8 hour cut off in the Marathon and a 4.5 hour cut off in the half.
Marathon start time 9am
Half Marathon start time 10am
