Bench for Connor
On Sunday 12th December, there was a brief ceremony to welcome the installation of a memorial bench in honour of Connor Corbin, our exciting, talented, fun-loving, unconventional friend – who died a lifetime too soon in March this year, at the incomplete age of just 16. The bench with its short but poignant dedication on a plaque will keep reminding us of his contribution to Poole AC, not just in his unselfish giving of time and effort to us, but in his joyful banter and encouragement of others.
News of the English Schools’ Cross-Country Cup Final 2021
The races included in this finals event were held at Tretherras School, Newquay, on Saturday 6th December. One of our members, Intermediate Girl Freya Woollard, was competing for her Leweston School. On an undulating grassland course with some challenging slopes in its 3000m, she finished 57th of the 150 finishers. She was the second scorer for her team, which totalled 257 points and placed 17th of the 27 complete teams. Remember this is a National competition and even the two previous rounds were fiercely competitive.
Junior Awards Evening on Jan 8th
If you haven’t already done so, please make a note in your 2022 diaries to come to “The Junction” Leisure Centre, Broadstone, on that Saturday evening to be part of the end-of-year celebrations which help us to recognise the range of talent and commitment you can find and observe in our Club. So, you athletes! Whether or not you are likely to receive an award, please come to congratulate your team-mates and enjoy the food and disco! Make sure you bring your parents: without them, most of you could not even get to training, let alone – in this Covid year – to competitions! They deserve to be part of this social occasion. More details of start time and entry fee (maybe including a raffle ticket?) to follow soon.
