News from the British Cross(-Country) Challenge Match 3

This was No. 3 in the five match series which ends in Loughborough on March 12th. It was held “in very testing conditions” (remember Storm Arwen!) in Sefton Park, Liverpool, on 27th November. In his first club race at this level, u17M Ed Bird had an inspired run to win by 4 seconds in 16-58, from a field of 104. The challenging course was 5.5 km. In the Senior Mens’ race, over a 9.8 km course, member Dominic Willmore was ranked 128 of the 511 finishers in a time of 32-07. (Winner 28-02.) He was also ranked 53 of the 81 u23M. ( NOTE : the Loughborough event also incorporates the UK Inter-Counties Championships)

South-West Indoor Championships Part 2 – Sunday, January  9th, 2022

It was unfortunate that we did not have much notice of Part 1! These events are being held in Cardiff as part of the Welsh National Indoor (Track and Field) Championships. The age-groups are the same as they will be for the outdoor Track season in 2022. Part 1 will be contested next Sunday (December 5th) but it appears that no-one from the South-West knew, so that they could enter in time! As you can see from the heading, there will be a Part 2, for the Juniors aged u13, u15 and u17, on January 9th, again at the (Welsh) National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff. (NOTE: this is the day after our Junior Club Presentation Evening)

The events offered will be as follows:-

  • All will be able to do: 60m, 800m, 1500m (u13s and u15s must choose between 800 and 1500; they cannot compete in both)
  • Hurdles on the track.

On the Field:

  • All the boys/men, plus u17W, can do Long Jump.
  • U13G and u15G can do Shot Putt.
  • U15B and G, and u17M and W, can do Pole Vault.

Entries are open now, via Open Track here>>>   All the details are there, plus the Entry system. You need to be EA registered. The cost is £6 for one event; and £10 for (maximum) two events. A timetable will only be published after entries have closed. Entries close at 5 pm on Thursday, December 16th. On the competition day, all attending the Championships will need to produce a “Covid-19 passport” or proof of a negative lateral flow test. PLEASE NOTE: If enough Poole AC athletes enter, a coach may hire and drive a minibus to Cardiff and back. Travellers will then share the cost of hire/petrol.

This a reminder that if you wish to compete in the Dorset Championship races on January 2nd at RNAS Merryfield, you need to enter BOTH competitions. For details go to the Dorset County Athletics Association web-site. Entries close on Wednesday, December 22 at midday.
