Melissa’s schedule on Gold Coast @ CWG!

Melissa (Millie) Courtney is currently on Gold Coast, Australia, with her father Mark and her coach Mark Pauley, preparing for her races for Wales in the 21st Commonwealth Games. The Games Opening Ceremony is on Wednesday, April 4th.   Melissa’s first event will be the Heats of the W1500m on the morning of Monday, April 9th.   (The web-site says 10.25 am our time – but check to be accurate.)  If she qualifies from these, the Final is on April 10th at 1.04 pm. (She recently finished 2nd in a warm-up race in Brisbane, beating a number of Games rivals in 4-06.70.)  After a break, she starts in the W5000m Final on Sat. April 14th at 6.20 am. Closing Ceremony Sunday, April 15th.

Quadkids Update

Last week I omitted to mention the achievements of Freya Woollard and Beatrice Hamblin who also competed in the QuadKids events at the BAC Open on March 25th.

Freya did Season’s Bests in all four events: 75m 12.8; 600m 2-13; LJ 2.82m; and Howler 14.90m.  Her total of 158 points earned her 4th place. In her first-ever competition, Beatrice managed: 14.3; 2-28; 2.21m; and 8.50m. She totalled 95 points and placed 20th (out of 29!)

We desperately need more officials!

For every home and away match in which we are involved, either as Poole AC or Team Dorset, we have to contribute to the pool of officials for that match. In many cases, each official who signs in is worth up to 10 points for our team: in a close match, that points contribution is crucial. There is a very convenient course to be held, possibly at Lytchett Minster School, on either May 13th or 14th.   All officials need to attend the Health and Safety module in the morning; then choose one of the Track/Field options in the pm.

If interested, please contact Lindsay Hole, Team Dorset  http://www.teamdorsetathletics.btck.co.uk/

Can we get a FULL TEAM for Wessex 1?

The first Wessex YAL Match is at King’s Park on Sunday, April 8th.  This is a very important match for all our athletes in the u11s, u13s, 15s, u17s and some u20s.  Team Managers can only select on the basis of current performance knowledge, so all athletes should try to give themselves a base-line or early-season performance on which to build their season.   A full team will give us a great start in this League.  All our athletes who train regularly should feel confident in helping the Club in this local match.   If you can possibly get to this match (first Track and Field events start at 10.45 am.) PLEASE contact Peter Cornes.  WE NEED YOU!
