Commonwealth Bronze for Millie today!
A brilliantly planned and executed race in the Commonwealth Games on Gold Coast brought Melissa Courtney home in BRONZE MEDAL position, beating 13 other top ladies. Yesterday she had qualified from her semi-final in 4th. place in 4-06.63, just doing enough! In the Final at lunch-time (our time) today, she ran at the back for the first 800, gradually made her way forward in the third lap to be 4th. at the bell. Steady pressure on the final bend confirmed her in third place in a new PB (and Club Record !) of 4-03.44. She was happy!
The fact that the race had been delayed by an electrical problem did not seem to have disturbed her concentration. The fact that it was run on a wet track after a torrential shower was an advantage after much training at Ashdown in the rain! Now we look forward to Saturday morning (6.20 our time) for her W5000m.
Chris Nash in the Paris Marathon.
One of our wheelchair athletes, Christopher Nash, competed in the massive Paris Marathon on Sunday (April 8th.) He finished, in a new PB for the distance, with 2-03-27. This ranked him an excellent 12th.
Many PBs in the first Wessex match.
A moderate turn-out in the steady, light rain at King’s Park on Sunday (April 8th.) rewarded a number of those who made the effort with PBs and a good performance base-line for their season. Full results and credit will be given next week, since currently there are no results on Power of 10. Please note, however, the excellent result for new member Edwin Langley in the Quadkids competition in which he broke two u11B Club Records. We understand that our u11B won their section of QK and we finished second in total (B + G.)
