Poole AC junior athletes selected for the London Mini Marathon!

Lexie Brown, William Rabjohns and Emilie Castagna have been selected for the South West at the Mini Marathon, with Ashia Wilson and Josh Smith as reserves. Congratulations!

William Rabjohns retains his British Championship!

The Counties Athletic Union (CAU) Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships Meeting staged at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough, on March 9th, incorporated the World Cross-Country Trials and the British Cross Challenge Finals. Poole AC had twelve runners at this meeting, all competing for Dorset in the Inter-Counties.  But two of them (William and Isobel Rabjohns) were also in the Challenge series. To be ranked overall in your age-group in this, the athlete has to complete any three of the four qualifying races and then run in the Final.  The 2018-19 series started in Cardiff in October (William WON u13B); moved to Milton Keynes in November (Will 3rd); two weeks later in November to Liverpool (Will 2nd).  He did not compete in Belfast in January.  And so to the Finals, where he was ranked 2nd overall at the race start.  By finishing 2nd of the 300 runners in this Final race, he gained enough points to WIN the aggregate and so retain the title!  Brilliant!

We wait to see Isobel’s final ranking in the u15G Challenge aggregate.

Featuring for Poole in the other races were Lexie Brown in the top quarter of her u13G race; Emily Parker and Ashia Wilson in the top half of their u15G race; and Harry Heffer also in the top half (of the u20M finishers). Cameron injured an ankle at the start of his race but still finished! Well done all!

Poole AC at the Regional Sportshall Finals!

At the South-west Regional Sportshall Finals held at the Paignton Leisure Centre on March 9th, Vanessa B, Bryan M, Peter C were all part of the Dorset County Team Management.  A total of 13 PAC athletes competed for Dorset.  There were 6 age-group competitions. Five of the South-west counties took part: Avon and Gloucs in u13s and u15s; Devon and Dorset in all; and Cornwall in u11s only. Devon won overall.

Suffice to say that all the 55 athletes from Dorset’s 6 track clubs did the best they could on the day, so it is (as ever) invidious to highlight any “stars”. As teams, however, the Dorset u11s ranked best, both Boys and Girls finishing 2nd in their competitions.  Herewith the PAC results:

These do not tell the full story. Maybe these results don’t show a lot of involvement and work!  In the u15s there were 2 relays. The u13s B/G  had 4 relays. In the u11G and u11B Dorset each won 3 of their 9 relays!
