Melissa wins the 3,000m, Jack gets PB in Long Jump!
In Glasgow last weekend, at the Spar British Indoor Championships on Saturday, Jack Roach (son of High Jump coach Mark) qualified for the final eight of the M Long Jump. As we could see on TV, he managed an indoor PB of 7.45m with his final attempt, ranking him 7th in that competition. Good early season!
Then on Sunday, in the 3,000m, Melissa Courtney-Bryant ran a steady race on the tight Emirates circuit, doing enough to become British champion in a time of 9:48.54 against six other women. Well done Millie!
Adam sets another Club record in Sheffield!
Also competing last weekend, this time in the English National Indoor Meeting in Sheffield, Adam Booth set a new U20M Indoor Club Record for 400m when placing second in his heat in an excellent 50.75.
In the Final, also on Saturday, he placed 4th (of five) in 51.39. Then on Sunday he raced in the heats of the 60m hurdles placing 4th (of 6) in 8.38, a season’s best, but which did not qualify him for the final. So this was another developmental competition in events relevant to his Decathlon career. Thanks as ever, to his loyal support team!
Twelve Club members competed in Nationals!
Finally, on Saturday, in the heavy mud and standing water of Wollaton Park, Nottingham, twelve stalwarts braved the conditions of the sticky course for the Saucony English (ECCA) Championships. There were also significant problems (via massive, delaying queues) for car parking!
Will Rabjohns, as a first year U15B, ran strongly to finish 7th (of 364!), just 34 seconds behind the winner! Ben and the U17 girls also featured well; even Jamie ranked in the top 15% of his race! What a day!
