Southern Cross-Country Relays at Wormwood Scrubs, London, 23rd October
Our u13 Girls’ team of Eloise Martin (8-08, 23rd fastest of at least 128 runners), Polly Evans (8-12, 26th fastest) and Amelia Drew (8-20, 29th fastest) combined after their 3 x 2km legs to achieve a time of 24-40 and finish in 8th place of the 16 complete teams. With a minimum of experience, that’s a great start to their season! Thanks to the managers and all involved.
Update on Wessex XC, Learoyd Road, 17th October
215 athletes contested the seven races (covering ten age-groups) which were hosted by Poole AC at the Limelights Youth Centre in Canford Heath. Thanks to the agreement of that Centre, we were able to use it as an organisation base and female toilet facility. In a similar way, thanks to the co-operation of Dexter Sports Youth Football, they arranged all their matches to be away fixtures that day, enabling us to access their fields for set-up and take-down; the use of their car park; and provided a male toilet facility! The conditions were damp after early-morning dew, but warm sun dried the course. The attending First Aid people had little to do!
A discussion point is that, of those 215 runners, only 29 were from Poole AC and 11 of those were Seniors. We had hoped for greater commitment and involvement by the Juniors in their first competitive Cross-Country opportunity and challenge. We are grateful to those athletes and parents who could and did commit.
- U11B – 4/7
- U13G – 3/5
- U15B – 4/5
- U15G – 1/5
- SM – 5/8
- SW – 1/4
- SW (2) – 4/4
The other age groups did not have enough of our members to complete a team.
(Just to explain about the Senior results: (a) there were 31 SM plus 6 u20M; so their individual and team result includes all 37 who raced; (b) similarly with the SW, there were 16 SW plus 2 u20W; so their results include all 18 who raced.)
