 ROAD RUNNING

For many of our senior members road running is the heart of Poole AC. We have a very strong presence in the Dorset Road Race League and Dorset County Championship League, and as well as fielding high numbers of entrants, our teams often win team prizes.

Training

Our main club night is on a Tuesday from the Ashdown Track at the Ashdown Leisure Centre and there are groups for all abilities, so there’s something for everyone. We meet at 7.00pm for a weekly round-up of results, before heading out running at 7.15pm. Training is designed to develop your skills and endurance. Everything is covered including hills, sprinting and even some off road in the summer. We also meet on a Thursday evening as part of Poole Joggers. Click here to find out more information.

If training on a track is what you’re after, we cater for you too! We have coaches based at the Ashdown track who will help you work on sprinting and stamina.

League competitions

Dorset Road Race League

The Dorset Road Race League (DRRL) is a long established annual road running league consisting of up to 12 events of varying distance, in various locations in Dorset. Runners compete for individual and team prizes each year. Competitors must be first claim members of the club and registered to England Athletics to be counted. For both individual and team competitions, the best 7 results score towards the League. For Under 17s the best 3 of 4 and for Under 21s the best 6 of 11  count. Some league races also incorporate DCAA championships, open to those of Dorset eligibility with separate prizes to go to seniors and veterans over 40 years old.

  • Male Teams Div 1 – top 5 to score, Div 2 – top 4 to score
  • Female Teams Div 1 and Div 2 – top 3 to score

DRRL EVENTS

Poole AC Club Competition

Poole AC holds its own road and off-road internal competitions throughout the year, where your best times will count towards club awards. The events range in distance from 1 mile to 26.2 miles, so there should be something for everyone. The three competitions are:

  • Club Road Race Championships – incorporating some DRRL events and other local races
  • Multi-terrain Championships – local races on varied terrain (some parts road, some off road)
  • Summer series – incorporating free events organised by the club, such as the Cow Plop Plod and one mile and 5k time trials, and a selection of other local events
